A massive protest rally was held in Kolkata on Wednesday by the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad and Youth Trinamool Congress, following the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel the appointments of 26,000 school teachers in West Bengal. The rally began from College Square and concluded at Dharmatala, with thousands of participants marching with slogans and banners opposing the verdict. Youth Trinamool President Sayoni Ghosh led the protest alongside leaders Shanti Ranjan Kundu, Jay Bakshi, and Trinankar Bhattacharya.
Participants in the rally raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya, accusing them of being responsible for the job cancellations. Protesters claimed that the joint actions of the BJP and CPI(M) had led to the removal of qualified candidates from their posts. "The Chief Minister stands with those who lost their jobs," was one of the repeated messages conveyed by rally leaders, as per statements made during the march.
The Trinamool Chhatra Parishad announced that protests will continue until a list of qualified candidates is made public. They stated that the ongoing agitation is aimed at defending the rights of deserving candidates whose jobs were terminated. The rally created significant traffic disruptions in central Kolkata, with participants asserting their demand for transparency and immediate resolution.
